Emma Short Holistic Therapies

Emma combines Holistic Kinesiology with Psychology and Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based in Sydney's inner west

While she works with a broad range of conditions, Emma has a keen interest in women and children's health, including pre and postnatal care. “The power of the mind, in addition to lifestyle factors has a huge impact on so many conditions, including fertility and yet it is so often overlooked.”

Emma graduated from the University of Liverpool (U.K.) in 2000 with a bachelor of science honours degree in Psychology where she specialised in child development, body image, obesity and eating disorders.

Dissatisfied with what she considered to be a non humanist approach to Psychology, she took a career break to travel and consider her options. In 2004 she arrived in Sydney, the place she now calls home. It was there that she stumbled across Holistic Kinesiology during an open day at the College of Complementary Medicine in Hornsby. “As luck would have it, I was chosen to participate in a class demonstration. Coming from a scientific background, I was quite cynical about this new-ish therapy. The facilitator, through muscle testing and touching a few points on my face and body was able to accurately pinpoint my issues in a way that no other therapy had even come close to. It took me a few days to process what had happened, it didn’t quite fit within my belief system but the power and efficiency of Kinesiology could not be ignored.” She enrolled at the college a week later, graduating in 2008.

Applying western health science and eastern philosophies, Emma believes that we all have the capacity to heal ourselves and that the answers to self-healing lie within, “Muscle monitoring can give people a voice during times when self-expression is difficult, or impossible, tapping into the subconscious and diffusing stress patterns. Left untreated, these stress patterns may lead to physical or emotional pain or illness. My aim is to provide strategies that can be easily implemented and maintained so that clients can reach their potential, move towards self-empowerment and a greater sense of well-being.”

Emma is passionate about mind-body medicine and is fascinated by how our thoughts, beliefs, actions and life events can shape us on a physical level. “It is widely accepted that stress leads to illness, Kinesiology goes that step further and identifies specifically what stressor is triggering a certain condition or complaint so that it can be addressed thoroughly and with compassion.”

Emma is committed to helping people understand the deeper meaning behind their condition, “With understanding comes the opportunity for transformation, we can free ourselves of whatever it is that is holding us back and start building a new life.”

Balancing motherhood with her passion for holistic therapies, Emma lives in Sydney’s inner west with her husband, Trent and their one year old daughter, Isla.

“It is fair to say that Kinesiology changed my life in so many ways, it inspired me to pursue my dream of supporting people through their own personal challenges, to help people create new lives for themselves. Wellbeing follows naturally when we are in alignment (with our true self) and allow ourselves to start living the life we want to live.”
